This lovely antique painting by Canadian folk artist Effie M. Shangraw (née Garrison), from Colebrook, ON. (b. Feb. 7, 1876, d. May 26, 1959.), was painted at her old stone home built in 1853 on the banks of the Napanee River.  This information is provided by a note on the photo attached the back of the painting, which provides a helpful record for provenance and adds to its value.

The material for the artwork was provided by A. Ramsay & Son from Montreal, which was operating between 1864 and 1933 (according to this source).

The exact age of the painting in unknown, but if Ms. Shangraw completed it when she was 50, that would be in 1926.

The frame is wood and finished with a warm two-tone gold decorative border. Note that the bottom edges will be touched-up as there is slight wear (see main photo).

This painting will make a terrific addition to any home or Canadiana folk art collection.
