HPOC announces the launch of a “Lost Treasures Series” which will commemorate artworks, architectural details, buildings and lands that have been lost due to some form of destruction, through a series of framed canvas prints from photographs.

Your purchase will help preserve the artistry of the past, bring its inspiration into your daily life, and contribute to rebuilding or other fundraising efforts.

A fitting start to this collection relates to the recent fire at St. Anne’s Anglican Church in Toronto. The interior and roof of this Byzantine-style church built in 1907-08, which is also a National Historic Site, was sadly destroyed. It was a building of unique construction and contained artworks by many artists, including 19th century stained glass, murals from the Group of Seven and medallions from two prominent female sculptors commissioned in the 1920s, as well as extensive mosaic art added in the 1960s.

Featured in our first framed print are three panels of the now lost stained-glass windows, which were preserved from the first church (est. 1862), and carried over to the current church. The photo is by Sue Careless (used with permission).

The community, with the mayor’s backing, plans to rebuild the church and has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign. Half of the profits from the sale of these prints will be shared with the GoFundMe effort, along with 8% from Ms. Careless who has donated the amount we would normally provide to a participating artist.
